Food is critical to our survival. Yet, there are people throughout the world who do not have access to sufficient and/or healthy food. A number of social movements focused on food-related issues have sprouted up in both the Global North and the Global South in recent decades. In this course, we will examine the national and international political and economic dynamics that shape production, distribution and access to healthy food, as well as a number of the social movements that have emerged, their critiques of the dominant agri-food system, and the solutions they offer.
