Welcome to the Political Economy (PE) Peer Advising program! 

Peer advisors are a great resource for students looking for answers to  questions such as:

Meet our PE Peer Advisors

Nareh - Peer AdvisorNAREH AGHAKHANIAN: Nareh is currently a third year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Sustainability and Development and Slavic Languages and Literatures with a concentration in Armenian Studies. Beyond classes, Nareh is involved in the ASUC Student Legal Clinic and deeply enjoys helping the greater Berkeley Community through their legal needs. She is also an active leader in the philanthropy team of Zeta Tau Alpha and a member of Phi Alpha Delta (Pre-Law Fraternity). She is a passionate young Armenian that strives to serve her homeland and advance the Armenian cause. Nareh is excited to be a part of the PE Peer Advising Team and help students find their own unique path within the major. She hopes to share her insight and knowledge about the major and be  a helpful friend to all! Nareh is available to meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am – 11:30am. Sara - Peer AdvisorSARA ALTSCHULER: Sara is currently a fourth year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Globalization. During the Spring 2022 semester, Sara studied abroad in Bologna, Italy. She hopes to utilize her experience to help PE students learn more about balancing the major and planning a semester abroad. Last summer, Sara interned for a real estate tech start-up based in NYC. She currently interns at a cybersecurity company, working on the Marketing Strategy and Operations team. In addition to her role as a peer advisor, Sara is involved in Berkeley Women in Business and the SAGE Mentorship Program. Michael - Peer AdvisorMICHAEL GRANADOS: Michael is a fourth-year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Financial Economics. He transferred from Napa Valley College (NVC) to Cal in Spring of 2021. Before coming to Cal,  he was a member of student government at NVC and was also in charge of the Student Food Basket at NVC and laid the groundwork to convert the Food Basket into a Basic Needs Center for Napa Valley College students. Michael is interested in theoretical Economics and Political philosophy! He currently works for Bearwalk. Outside of that realm he enjoys playing instruments such as guitar and piano. After Cal, he  plans on going to graduate school. Michael is available to meet on Mondays from 3:00pm – 4:00pm and Wednesdays from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. Helene - Peer AdvisorHELENE GUREWITZ (she/her): Helene is a fourth year double majoring in Sociology and Political Economy with a concentration in Inequalities in the US.. She is a member of the Cal Cheerleading and the President of Cal Queeks where she is able to provide a safe space for Queer students in Greek Life and help fundraise for LGBT+ focused organizations. Over the Summer, she worked at Cruise Automation as a Talent Acquisition Operations Intern and is excited to give guidance on navigating college, mental health, clubs, the PE major, and anything else you might want to talk about! Danielle - Peer AdvisorDANIELLE KAPPLER: Danielle is a junior double majoring in Political Economy and Sociology and minoring in Public Policy and French. Her concentration for the Political Economy major is Inequality in the U.S. On campus, she is the Internal Vice-President of Delta Phi Epsilon, an international relations fraternity, and Outreach Director for the Rights Stuff, a human rights publication. Off-campus, she is an intern in a congressional office in Oakland. She is excited to continue her role as a PE peer advisor and hopes to share some of her experiences in the major and at Cal in general. Marshall - Peer AdvisorMARSHALL LI: Marshall is a fourth-year studying Political Economy with a concentration in Technology and Society and minoring in Public Policy. He has worked at the Asia Society Northern California, PwC Beijing Office, and the Lanier Law firm in New York City. He has served as the Vice President of California Lightweight Rowing team and rowed on the port side. Marshall is a long-term facilitator of the Contemporary China DeCal and is a recipient of the Panorama International Literature Award 2022 for poetry. He is willing to chat about anything related to healthcare, justice, sports, poetry, pre-law, international relations, work experiences, and being an international student! Max - Peer AdvisorMAX MORENO: Max is a third year majoring in Political Economy with a minor in Politics, Philosophy & Law (PPL). Within the PE major, his concentration is Climate and International Development. Max is Involved in professional foreign affairs fraternity Delta Phi Epsilon and URAP at Institute of European Studies and is a Golden Bear Orientation Leader and member of UC Men’s Chorale. He interned  at the US Mission to the EU in Brussels where he worked to help US businesses navigate EU policy. You can ask him about URAPs, internships, and or any other major-related questions. Miguel - Peer AdvisorMIGUEL QUIROZ: Miguel is a fourth year, majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Technology & Economy. He Involved with the Latinx Business Student Association in which he has learned more about the different roles that exist within the business industry. Miguel has also participated in Strategic Sourcing & Nonprofit internships. His interests are very broad but are intertwined between the business world and education.He is very excited to assist students in navigating the major as it is very flexible and there is always something new to learn about the major. Hilde - Peer AdvisorHILDEBERTO VENEGAS: Hildeberto is a fourth-year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Economic Development in Latin America and a Public Policy minor. Hildeberto transferred to Cal from Napa Valley College in Fall 2020. Before coming to Cal, Hildeberto was a member of the student government and worked with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area to provide legal and educational services to immigrants hoping to become US citizens. At Cal, Hildeberto has worked as an associate in the office of the ASUC Transfer Representative, is part of the Alumni Scholars Program, a member of the John Quincy Adams Society, and a SPMP mentor for future transfer students. After graduating, Hildeberto plans to attend law school at UC Hastings or Berkeley Law. His goal as PE Peer Advisor is to provide guidance to recent transfer students as the challenges they face are often  unique. Fiona - Peer AdvisorFIONA VOGLER: Fiona is a fourth year student double majoring in Political Economy and Geography with a focus on economy, culture, and society Within the PE major, she is concentrating in Development and Globalization. On campus she is involved in the Fung Fellowship, with a focus on conservation and tech, and outside of school she enjoys reading, spending time in nature, and collecting house plants. Patty - Peer AdvisorMURONG (Patty) YAO: Patty is a fourth year majoring in Political Economy and minoring in Public Policy. Within the PE major, my concentration is Wealth and Inequality in the US. Patty is passionate about criminal justice reform and restorative justice and hoping to pursue a career in these areas. She is an intern with the Alameda County Public Defender’s office and student report for Davis Vanguard.
