The International and Area Studies Academic Programs currently support six undergraduate majors, five undergraduate minors, and three graduate degree programs. The program’s goal is to provide students with a set of skills and intellectual concepts that are both derive from and reflect the world’s increasing complexity and globalized nature. Housed in the Division of Social Sciences in the College of Letters and Science, the IAS Academic Programs leverage the unique intellectual depth and diversity of the faculty by engaging with them. A number of campus initiatives also provide students an opportunity to focus on global or regional problems and issues that either do not fit within a traditional discipline-focused department or that transcend a more immutable intellectual framework. IAS additionally supplements the Berkeley student experience with a wide variety of integrative and specialized courses that are not offered elsewhere, making a unique campus contribution.
